Introduction

When the githerzai mate, it is a passionless affair. As a race, the githzerai have very few passions, and most of these are restricted to hatred-- hatred of the githyanki, of the illithid, of slavery. They mate for life, but the bond that forms between man and woman is private and usually without ceremony.

There are, however, exceptions to every rule, and among the denizens of Limbo there have been couples who loved each other so fiercely, that each was willing to sacrifice life and honor to save the the other. These couples are few and far between; to betray one's own kind is to become an outcast, and among the githzerai, to be abandonded by one's people is a fate worse than death. In some generations, though, there have been men and women for whom no price is too great-- who would risk death, banishment, or worse for their love. This story is about one such couple, and about their son.
